Jim Thornton's Election Blog - Now is the time to clean up politics

'Open Politics' seems to be the cry, people want more transparency and less party tribalism. The advantage of 'closed' politics is that you probably get more done more efficiently, and party discipline should keep the mavericks under control; you can vote once every four years or so, and leave them to get on with it. But the thing that has wrecked this is the information revolution, and now we have to find a way to cope with different realities. One lady in her garden yesterday evening pointed out that Independents would never get another oppotunity like this election for a long time; she urged me to go for it, and that seems to be a general reaction: we have to find a new way of doing local politics. It may be a bit messy while we experiment, but why not join me in trying to find new ways forward?

I saw the leaflet come through the door and thought that 'hey, this could be a worthwhile candidate for my vote'.  but then i read on.... and the leaflet said something along the lines of 'I read at the local church...'

Well i'm sorry, but someone who believes in a magical, invisible, imaginary friend and that this friend hears his mutterings and reads his mind, does not get my vote.
