Buntingford Ward

Debbie Le May

I moved to Buntingford with my husband and young family more than 25 years ago and have lived in the same house ever since! My children all went to Millfield School and on to Edwinstree and the then Ward Freman School. All adult now, my daughter lives in Buntingford with her son, one son lives in Royston and the other in Cambridge. Very soon after I moved here I became editor of the Buntingford Journal and went to from there to professional journalism with the Mercury.  I am currently a freelance journalist and have helped edit several local newspapers. As a local journalist my working life is focussed on the issues concerning local people.

I was a town councillor for 18 years, serving on all its committees, as chairman of the council’s planning and resources committees and as vice-chairman of the council, and I stood for Parliament in the 2004 General Election.
I look forward to being given the opportunity and honour of serving as your councillor

As a councillor on East Herts and Buntingford Town Councils I will do my best to:

  • See how traffic speed in the High Street can be reduced, especially at night when fewer cars are parked there
  • Report roads and pavements that could be improved and repaired and push for necessary works
  • Fight any plans to move rubbish collections to two-weekly, put ‘bugs’ in the bins to spy on householders or otherwise penalise anyone who does not recycle, while encouraging recycling if possible
  • Investigate what can be done to stamp out littering, graffiti and low-level vandalism
