David has lived in Christchurch Ward, Ware, for 35 years. He has three daughters who all went to school in Ware – and four grandchildren. He is an historian and runs the Rockingham Press, which publishes books like Ware’s Past in Pictures. As Secretary of the Ware Society, he played a leading role in many conservation projects in the town – including restoring the Riverside Gazebos and Scott’s Grotto, founding the Ware Museum (he was curator there for 14 years) and commissioning the wonderful Maltmaker Statue in the memorial garden opposite the Library and Museum. David was the historical adviser for the new Statutory List of Buildings of Special Architectural and Historical Interest for Ware, published in 1995 by English Heritage. He is currently honorary secretary and treasurer of the Ware Town Centre Partnership, working with councillors, police and traders to make Ware a safe, welcoming and commercially dynamic town. He organised last December’s successful Dickensian Evening and the Italian Food Markets in Tudor Square this Easter.
DAVID PERMAN GETS THINGS DONE – HE DOESN’T JUST TALK ABOUT THEM
As an East Herts & Ware Town Councillor, I will work hard to stop Ware from dying as a shopping centre. That means:
● Farmers’ Markets in Ware on Saturdays at least once a month.
● A Ware Town Manager – like every other town in the district !
● Working to fill empty shops.
● The establishment in Ware of well-known names in retailing.
● Free parking after 9 a.m. on market days – i.e. Tuesdays and (hopefully) some Saturdays.
● A direct bus service between Ware and local hospitals.
● Better sport and recreation facilities for teenagers.
● An imaginative policy for attracting tourists to Ware – including the return from the V&A (at least on loan) of the GREAT BED OF WARE.
● Above all, listening to what you – the community – think is important !
