Residents of Sele unite...it’s time for a by election!
Resignation leads to Hertford Town Council Vacancy
Hertford Town Council announced yesterday that following the resignation of Conservative Councillor John Cook of Sele Ward, a vacancy has arisen and there is an opportunity for a by election. As yet it is unclear why he has resigned.
It is a little known fact that a by election will only be held on request and if this does not happen then the Town Council will fill the vacancy at the next available opportunity.
A statement on Hertford aTown Council's website states; "An election to fill the vacancy will be held if notice in writing of a request for such an election is made by ten local government electors for the Hertford Sele Town Council electoral area and received by the Returning Officer of the East Hertfordshire District Council at the Council Offices, The Causeway, Bishop's Stortford, Herts CM23 2EN by not later than 18 May 2009".
So then residents of Sele, what are you waiting for? East Herts People are keen to get the ball rolling and set up a by election. We need Town Councillros who are democratically elected, not put there by the incumbents to conveniently fill a vacancy.

Let's get the debate going and fight for Hertford!

I'm all for a by election but what is it you provide for people standing and what conditions do you have on their manifesto?
