18/5/09 Esther Rantzen claims she may stand as an Independent in Luton as a result of her outrage at the expenses scandal that has engulfed our elected representatives. The former "That's Life" presenter and all round TV legend is contemplating standing on an anti corruption platform despite her lack of connection to Luton itself.

Herts County Council is set to challenge plans for the construction of 10,000 new homes in East Herts as part of the Government's East of England Plan.
The proposed development that would see the expansion of Harlow North is to be disputed at the High Court next Monday (19 May).

East Herts People is intrigued after reading today's copy of the Mercury to see a small article that in our view should be worthy of a much bigger space.

Herts County Council (HCC) has come under fire for a scheme that teaches young children how to ride a bus, costing £5,000 a year to run.
The "Cool Bus" classes for 10 and 11-year-olds, aimed at Year 6 pupils who are likely to need to use buses when they start secondary school in September, have been criticised by some as a waste of taxpayers' money during a time of recession.
